Introduction
The goal of education is to develop excellent human beings who are capable of rational thought and action, compassion and empathy, courage and resilience, scientific temper, and creative imagination.Educational institutions were founded to be on the cutting edge of knowledge and to help students reach their full potential so that they can contribute meaningfully not just to their profession but also to their families, society, and natural environment.
They are required to develop graduates with specific skills as well as innovative technology, goods, and procedures that the country requires. The graduate student should be job-ready, but also have a wide awareness of society and relationships, as well as a holistic attitude on life and a willingness and skill to work for national objectives. Due to the intense rivalry for admission to India’s best schools, students are unable to determine their own interests and ambitions, which is a major role in the current condition of demotivation among UG students.The combination of achieving admission but not receiving the desired branch, as well as peer pressure causing its own problems, creates a demotivating and toxic environment. The start of dormitory life without tight parental supervision, along with a terrible daily schedule, exacerbates the situation.
Students come from a variety of backgrounds, and new students are essentially transitioning from one culture to the next. Over time, each family, institution, area, town, and so on has evolved their way of life and traditions. This conflict reflects at the level of expression, despite the fact that there are commonalities at the core value level. In this situation, it is critical to comprehend universal human values such as trust, respect, love, and compassion, as well as to appreciate the various expressions and approaches taken in different regions.
A multi-pronged effort is required to get out of this dilemma. It will be necessary to work closely with new entrants in order to make them feel at ease, to allow them to explore their academic interests and activities, to reduce competition and encourage them to strive for excellence, to promote bonding among them, to build relationships between teachers and students, to provide a broader perspective of life, and to develop character. The Induction Program aspires to create involved, productive, and contributing citizens who will help to develop a fairer society.
Student Induction Program (SIP)
(Induction Program was discussed and approved for all colleges by AICTE in March 2017. It was discussed and accepted by the Council of IITs for all IITs in August 2016. It was originally proposed by a Committee of IIT Directors and accepted at the meeting of all IIT Directors in March 2016.1 This guide has been prepared based on the Report of the Committee of IIT Directors and the experience gained through its pilot implementation in July 2016 as accepted by the Council of IITs. Purpose of this document is to help institutions in understanding the spirit of the accepted Induction Program and implementing it.)
In Student Induction Program, an exposure to essence in the context of the whole humanityis provided with representative cross-section of all cultures. The student will be guided toward a humanistic society based on truth and universal human values such as love and compassion by using a yardstick to evaluate these varied possibilities. It is more common and universal that everyone wants to live with fulfilment in society. For the same student’s exposure to traditional Indian culture and philosophy as well as contemporary western culture and thought is required and Student Induction Program plays an important rule to fulfil this.
The Student Induction Program comprises of a variety of activities, such as meeting new students and socializing with lecturers and other university personnel. Second, familiarity with the local area or city, knowledge of various departments, relationships with department heads, local retailers, and necessary shops are all necessary for survival in a new location. Getting information on the university’s rules and regulations, which includes dos and don’ts. Other activities that may involve students in a variety of artistic, cultural, and cocurricular activities that allow them to discover themselves and gain an understanding of their intrinsic desires and interests, which will be beneficial to them in the long term.
To make it worthwhile, numerous seminars, talks by prominent persons, and sessions by the assigned mentor for the student are held at the beginning of their enrolment to familiarise them with the university environment. It has been observed that when a student moves on to further studies, whether for under graduation or postgraduation, he or she has a lot of questions and misconceptions regarding the college and the programme. They should have a fundamental understanding of the course’s outcomes and prospects, as well as the institution or institute into which they are enrolling. To have faith in their decisions and to know that when they’re finished, they’ll be well-equipped with the values and abilities they need.
Objective of SIP
The Student Induction Program has been formulated with specific goals to help students to
- Connect to the fundamental principles.
- See and respect other cultures, to see the commonalities among them in the light of clarity about human culture and civilization.
- Acquaint with the institution’s ethos and culture
- Establish a healthy daily routine and foster camaraderie within the batch as well as between faculty and students.
- Develop awareness, sensitivity, and comprehension of the Self—Family—Society—Nation—World—Entire Nature through being exposed to a holistic view of existence.
- Assist them in forming new friendships with classmates and seniors who will stick with them throughout their college years and beyond.
- Overcome deficiencies in key professional abilities such as mathematics and language competence modules (only for those who need it).
Induction Program (SIP) in CGU, BBSR
Induction program has been included in B.Tech program structure for 2021-25 admission batch and approved by Board of Studies (BoS) and Academic Council, CGU, BBSR as a Mandatory Course (MC)of 0 credit. It is a 3-week program proposed to be conducted at the beginning of the Semester.
For the same a Student Induction Program Cell (SIP CELL) has been established in CGU, BBSR headed by Dr. Sukant Kishoro Bisoyi being the Chairman and Dr. Taraprasad Mohapatra being the Convenor. A core committee has been constituted on 07.10.2021 by Vice Chancellor, CGU for smooth conduction of the program with the following members.

For ACY: 2021-22, Student Induction Program (SIP-2021) has been successfully conducted in two phases. The 1st phase SIP-2021 was conducted for the students of Computer Science Engineering and allied branches from 21.10.2021 to 03.11.2021. The 2nd phase SIP-2021 was conducted for the students of Non-Computer Science Engineering and allied branches from 01.12.2021 to 12.12.2021. Total 807 students had participated in both phase of SIP-2021 and out of them 612 students have successfully completed. Certificates has been issued to students after successful completion of SIP-2021 with overall 75 % attendance.
