Dr. Ranjita Mohanty

HOD’s Message

On behalf of our faculty, staff, and students, I welcome you to the Department of Chemical Engineering at C. V. Raman Global University .
CGU was ranked 100 by the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2022. I hope that you learn more about chemical engineering program as you navigate the site.
The Department of Chemical Engineering at CGU was established in the year 2006. The department has been accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) since 2017 and has renewed its accreditation status again. Chemical Engineering is a constantly evolving discipline which keeps pace with the developing world. Our department reflects this in its teaching curriculum, research thrusts, industry partnerships and entrepreneurial initiatives.
Chemical engineers develop and design processes in which material and energy inputs are converted into value-added products through chemical, physical, biological transformations with the help of digitalization. Chemical engineers apply the principles of chemistry, physics, biology and mathematics, guided by the principles of economics, safety and environmental protection for the welfare of community.
Chemical engineers are innovative, creative and critical thinkers with versatile problem-solving skills. Chemical engineers are team players, working in consultation with inter- and multi-disciplinary teams of professionals, chemical engineers define problems, determine objectives, plan and conduct research, and then design, develop, and implement computerized and controlled processes for product manufacturing. Chemical engineering is a diverse discipline which adapts to the changing needs of society, also referred to as universal engineering.
We offer b.tech Chemical Engineering program at two levels with regular and an honors degree. The students also get an opportunity to complete a Minor degree from another department. Our undergraduate program is internationally renowned for high-quality classroom-based education in conjunction with practical work experience.
CGU Department of Chemical Engineering trains our students to be proactive participants in chemical engineering for community and dynamic leaders for our ever-evolving world. The profession has placed its graduates in different positions, spanning over the broad areas of digital (the process of converting process data into a digital, computer-readable form) world, consumer products, plastics, chemicals, bio molecular and biochemical engineering, biotechnology, fuel, food technology, nanotechnology, alternative energy, and petrochemicals, both domestically and internationally. More recently, our graduate students are placed in top companies such as Veddanta, Jindal steel, JSPL, JK Paper, Tata steel.
We have hired a highly accomplished and diverse faculty. Our faculty is recognized for their research and educational impact through their experiential skills. They are members of a variety of professional organizations. Our department is exponentially growing by leaps and bounds and our impact in chemical engineering education and research is poised for continual growth in the years ahead.
Our department “We bring new innovative ideas to the nation” which tells the story of our Chemical Engineering Department.
I invite you to explore all of the many aspects of our Department of Chemical Engineering through the website, and visit or contact us for more information. I look forward to hearing from you and seeing you at upcoming departmental, college, and university events!
Sincere regards,
Dr. Ranjita Mohanty
Head of the Department.

Department of Chemical Engineering

The Department offers four years B. Tech, two years M. Tech (R) degree and Ph. D in Chemical Engineering. The courses offer insight into the chemical process with good management practices. We are committed to produce individuals who have great potential and are really promising. The Department has started in the year 2006 with intake of 30 students. The department consists of well-equipped laboratories along with highly qualified faculties with different specialization. To facilitate the academic interest of the students and to keep them on the cutting edge of recent technology, the department conducts industrial visits, conferences, expert talks and advance training programmes on various thrust areas. The Department also provides special training for students such as MATLAB and Process Automation (FACT center affiliated from FESTO, Germany) to make them fit for industry. The department has the FACT centre of excellence which provides extra knowledge to the students. The students took part in Worldskill – 2019, India skill and Odisha skill in every year. The department won the First prize in Worldskill 2019 and second prize in Worldskill 2022 for Water Technology. The students also won third prize in Indiaskill in 2019 and first prize in 2022. Most of the students crack GATE, CAT and most of the students placed in reputed core companies like Jindal Steel, Jindal Cement, Jindal Power, Deepak Fartilizer, MacLeod Pharmaceutical, Themis Medicare Pharmaceutical, J.K. Paper, Glenmark Pharmaceutical, Adani Group etc. and software company like Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, TCS etc.
