HOD’s Message

Welcome to the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
The Department of Civil Engineering (now renamed as Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering since this year, 2023) came into being in 2009 with a commitment to train young minds to be the leaders in their chosen profession and serve the society for its betterment. The department has a good mix of senior faculty members with varied experiences in academic, industry, research etc. and young and not so young, vibrant and energetic faculty members – all alumni of institutes of national and international repute with impressive track record and academic career to make a formidable team to lead the department march forward upfront and make things happen.
The Department has state-of-the-art laboratories, in almost all specialisations in civil engineering, equipped with quality equipment/instruments procured from the vendors of integrity known world-wide for their involvement in manufacturing in laboratories equipment. These laboratories have been playing vital role in facilitating UG-PG teaching and research as well. A good number of research papers, prepared utilizing these lab facilities, have found acceptance and published in national and international journals of good standing. The prototype plumbing lab is under construction and once completed, the University and the Department will be proud of it being the ‘centre of excellence’ and largest laboratory of its kind in the country in field of Plumbing engineering.

The Civil Engineering curriculum and syllabi for all the programs are carefully designed and framed by a specifically constituted team with member from alumni and experts from academia and industry (mainly from IITs, NITs and Government etc.) to prepare students for critical thinking and tackle various challenges in the field of Civil Engineering. The Department is fully committed to train and transform students as capable professionals ready to deliver to match the best of the world for the development of the society. The under-graduate students are given the opportunity to undergo training and internship in various industries in lieu of 8th semester so that they can have early exposer of working with the work force of industry prior to their graduation. This process in fact is an attempt to strengthen the industry-academia interface and overcome the so-called gaps between university curriculum and industry requirement.
The Department offers five major post-graduate (PG) programs i.e., MTech by research and Ph. D. in field of Structural Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Environment Engineering and Geotechnical engineering from the academic year of 2021 with an objective to meet the increasing demand of manpower in academia, industry and research. The MTech programs are designed in such a way that students can orient themselves for the industry as well as for academia based on their aptitude.

About Department

The Department of Civil Engineering was established in , 2009 with a capacity of 60 students in B.Tech. programme. Now the department successfully handles post graduate programmes (M.Tech. by Research), research programs (PhD) along with B.Tech Civil Engineering. The department, since then, has been striving forward in multiple directions in the intra and inter domains of the classical to the latest technological advancements in the field of Civil Engineering. The department has highly qualified faculty members with strong dedication and passion for teaching and research. The department is not only engaged in imparting conventional classroom teaching and learning process, but also believes in developing industry-academic interface, wherein the students are encouraged and allowed freedom to have an exposure and hands on practice of theories taught in classrooms in shape of internships i.e., students work in the industry in lieu of the final semester in B.Tech. programme.
The Department has students across the nation and beyond . International students bring diverse perspectives, experiences and cultures, enriching the learning environment. This diversity fosters more inclusiveness and skills needed to work in a global scenario such as adaptability, cross-cultural communication and networking. The students from all backgrounds and experiences are welcome to join us in shaping the future of engineering and making a difference in the world of infrastructures.

The department is proud to be associated as a permanent member in American Concrete Institute (ACI) an international professional body in the field of concrete technology. The Student Chapter of ACI has been participating in various National and International events of India Chapter of ACI and has also bagged many prizes and scholarships.

Recently the Department has started the student chapter of Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS) in which one of our professors Dr. G. Sridevi is the national executive member.
